Aardman Animations is brining children’s favourite Shaun The Sheep to the big screen.

With The Pirates: An Adventure With Scientists failing to prove a hit for US audiences, while being a big hit in the UK last year, there was doubt about the next move for the movie division of Aardman Animation. New films are on the way, but no one was certain what the films would be.

Nick Park is said to be working on a new film with strong indications he plans to tackle a second Wallace & Gromit film afterwards. But what film was due out was unknown till now, as at least one project on the Aardman slate that has now been confirmed, is that of Shaun The Sheep Movie. And what’s more, this will be a stop-motion feature.

Shaun will be written and directed by Richard Starzak and Mark Burton, with Studio Canal distributing the movie in the UK.

On a side note, Sony does not seem to be involved with this particular film. Aardman had a deal in place with Sony for distribution production, and it is hard to learn whether that’s still the case. More CG feature are believed to be in development at Aardman Animations and one possible idea is that Sony will be more involved with these projects, but not with Shaun The Sheep.

The first synopsis for Shaun The Sheep is as follows:

When Shaun’s mischief inadvertently leads to the Farmer being taken away from the farm, Shaun, Bitzer and the flock have to go into the big city to rescue him, setting the stage for an epic adventure
